Cavani: Neymar? We do not need to be friends

Edison Cavani suggested that he and Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar still do not enjoy a warm relationship and that it what was important was to be professional.

The pair had a much publicised spat over who was to take a penalty against Lyon and the issue continues to run despite Cavani claiming that it is the team that counts.

“We don’t need to be all friends like a family,” he told Portail SFR.

“What is necessary is to be professional on the pitch and that means respecting your teammates and giving 100 percent.

“My football culture may be different to others and for me what happens in the changing room remains there.

“There are people that like to talk a lot and at times they invent things that did not happen.”

He added that it was down to Unai Emery to decide who would be taking the penalties.

“It is a decision that has to be taken by the coach and we have to accept what he decides,” he stated.
