IGP to probe police officer who assaulted woman during lockdown

The Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh has  ordered the Accra Regional Police Command to probe into the case of a police officer for allegedly assaulting an elderly woman on Wednesday during a partial lockdown.

The IGP wants the woman who was in a viral video receiving two strokes of cane from a police man without any reason to be traced for further evidence and to help in identifying the police officer.

The woman who was allegedly assaulted in the video is identified as Madam Florence according to sources.

Supt. Mrs. Sheila Abayie-Buckman who is public relations officer of the Police said  “It is unfortunate what happened to Madam Florence. In fact and indeed, when we saw the video yesterday the Inspector General of Police instructed (the) Accra Regional Commander to locate, to find whatever evidence can be found, to locate the woman to tell her story and if she points out to any of the security personnel having done that he should follow the lead to identify the police or the security officer.”

She also added “We know all the police officers who were detailed to duty at the point where the incident is purported to have happened,”.
